The Ready2Scale Acceleration Program welcomed 15 dynamic digital and deep-tech startups into its first batch, fueling their progress with a focused 6-month program and a €60,000 grant. Let’s get to know the startups participating in the program. Today, we dive into the story of Feyenally, a health tech startup revolutionizing eye care accessibility.
Feyenally is a health tech startup behind eyeTEST, a mobile app that performs eye exams to detect refractive errors using a smartphone. The app leverages AI and neural networks to deliver objective testing, setting a new standard in eye health diagnostics. The company was founded by Piotr Kruszynski, a former CEO of PizzaPortal.pl with a strong background in finance and startups, and Matt Toporowicz, a serial entrepreneur with ten years of experience in eyewear.
How did you come up with the idea to create a startup?
The initial spark came from our desire to create the best digital experience for purchasing corrective eyewear online. The idea further evolved as we recognized the global need for accessible and affordable eye care solutions, especially given the shortage of optometrists and the rising demand for eye health services.
What have been the biggest challenges/failures and the biggest wins so far?
One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the complex regulatory environment for medical devices. However, significant wins include developing a working MVP, building an experienced and diverse team, and securing letters of intent (LOIs) from healthcare institutions in multiple countries.
What sets your startup apart from competitors?
Feyenally stands out by offering the only smartphone-based eye test that uses objective methods to analyze images of the eyes, as opposed to subjective patient feedback. This innovation ensures consistent and accurate results.
Why would you recommend the Ready2Scale Acceleration Program to other startups?
The program offers valuable exposure, expert mentorship, and a robust network that can help startups like Feyenally prepare for market entry, certification processes, and subsequent funding rounds. Its biggest advantage is flexibility and the possibility to tailor the support to your current needs.
Where do you see your startup in 1 year? And where in 5 years?
In one year, we aim to finalize regulatory approvals and begin scaling our solution in Europe and emerging markets. In five years, we envision global expansion with established partnerships in the US, Europe, and Africa, bringing accessible eye care to millions.
Which books/podcasts/publications and influencers in your field do you follow and recommend to other aspiring entrepreneurs?
Amid the whole craze about business publications (needless to mention AI itself), one podcast we highly recommend is On Purpose by Jay Shetty. It’s an inspiring podcast where Jay discusses mindfulness, relationships, and personal growth with various guests. In the midst of the fast-paced business world, this podcast helps us stay grounded and reminds us of the importance of mental well-being.
If you got the chance to meet Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos, what would you ask them?
We would ask how they maintain innovation within such large organizations, their strategies for navigating regulatory environments in emerging industries, and how they envision AI shaping the future of healthcare.
